DOOM

2’x3′ Oil and Gloss on Canvas

MF DOOM, the man of immortal rhymes passed on late last year. I first heard his ethereal voice on his Gorillaz collab “November Has Come“, and even before I listened to hip-hop, I was hooked. A true genre boundary breaker, he championed originality to the point you know its DOOM as soon as the beat drops.

From Madvillian to Victor Vaughn, Danger Doom to King Geedorah, he styled himself behind the mask of the villain, one who is cold, calculated, and uncompromising, however I always found his song uplifting and empowering.

Nowadays as an avid rap listener, I hear a little DOOM in any MC worth a name, and that’s influence that only adds to his legend.

Rest well, we all miss your rhymes now you’re gone.
