My last semester at Virginia Tech, I took a course on the functions of television with Dr. Michael Saffle. We explored the nature of the medium in several aspects: the history, the culture, the marketing, etc.
Two of the essays I wrote focus on how we as people consume television, and programs that I watched that explore the topic as well. In the cases presented, I dissect The Truman Show and an episode of Black Mirror that hyperbolize the consumer culture for the screen in dark, speculative futures.
I reference the works of theorists Marshall McLuhan, David Halberstam, Gillian Moreira, and Katherine Meizel to support my arguments.
